Euro 2012 for Windows Phone

So far so good for England – thanks to Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, who I’ve always said is a great asset to the team (ahem), England recovered from an abysmal start to the second half and took a deserved victory against a supposedly-average Swedish side. All we now need is one point from the match against Ukraine to get through to the next stage – but let’s hope for a big win and go through in first place. Maybe the Swedes will do us a favour and beat France. Whatever, qualification for the next stage is in our own hands and that’s a good position to be in (just ask any Dutchman). Feeling good enough about England’s chances of reaching the knock-out stages, I searched the Windows Phone marketplace for a Euro 2012 app, and found this little beauty from goal.com.

The app shows the results, match statistics, upcoming matches, head-to-head comparisons of the teams’ records against each other, the group tables (currently happy reading for us and the Germans, not so great for the Dutch and the Irish), squad information, team news, breaking news, media, and interviews. I didn’t get much of a chance to look during the Greece v Russia match, but there was also a live commentary.

Pinning the app to the start screen provides a live tile which (I’m guessing) will show updates of a match in progress, but for now is showing the result of the most recent game (again, happy reading – I took that screenshot before Saturday’s matches started).

The app is free, just go to the Windows Phone marketplace and search on ‘goal.com’. Let’s hope all my English Windows Phone-using readers will stay interested in the app until the day of the final.
